Ch. 6 - March of the Aunts to Michigan

With the RV at the mechanics, Rosie and Rinni hitched a ride with their dear Ma to northern Wisconsin and a fresh set of family. The A-frame had been a family treasure for the entirety of Rosie and Rinni’s life and they were happy to be on the lake canoeing, playing Samba, and spending quality time with their Wuncle.

There was also a tornado warning the first night there, so the neighbors in the travel trailer next door came over to shelter in their basement. And at some point they ripped out all the bathrooms (in the name of remodeling) turning the water off, so they were hauling buckets from the lake to flush, proving that home ownership can have just as many twists as RV ownership.

But I digress, between all the fun, Rosie and Rinni sat by the phone waiting (like a 1990s sitcom teen after her first date) for the mechanic to call. Through what felt like 100 phone calls, with phrases like “I’ve never seen an electrical system quite like yours” and “I’m shaking out the gremlins”, it was determined that they had a few problems going on.

  1. Their battery had been reinstalled incorrectly. (Remember the Walmart mechanic that shocked himself, apparently he is the gift that just keeps giving.)

  2. The mother board for the fridge is supposed to have a cover. Theirs does not, thus allowing the board to corrode.

  3. Various Gremlins. (Nobody quite ever understood what this meant but sometimes you just got to roll with it.)

The pups sunk into lake life seamlessly, day drinking white paws on afternoon boat rides. Eventually the RV was deemed fixed. Before picking it up, they took advantage of a small profile vehicle to drive back towards Chicago and visit another set of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The visit was short but sweet, featuring sculpture garden walks, cousin runs, outdoor crafts time, and of course rockband. A wonderful time was had by all. In this case, the pictures tell the story better.

With Rosie back behind the wheel of the RV, they journeyed east finally making it to Michigan (albeit not the U.P. and a solid month after the wedding they had originally aimed for). They had one more set of family members to drop in on and were thrilled to meet their cousins baby for the first time! Cuteness and cookouts abounded before hitting the road and journeying away from the lovely land of family.

After a month of house hopping from aunts to uncles, will Rosie and Rinni readjust to life in the RV? Will problems continue to plague them? Join us next week to find out!
